Mojoo Limited uses licensed data destruction software, registered to Mojoo Limited, to securely wipe every storage device from every machine we collect. A certificate of destruction is generated automatically for each drive, and copies are available to you on request for your GDPR and data protection records.
Why a factory reset or quick format is not enough
A Windows factory reset, a quick format, or simply deleting files does not overwrite the underlying data on a hard drive or SSD — it removes the file index, making files invisible to the operating system, but leaves the data in place and recoverable using freely available software. For a business disposing of equipment that held customer records, financial data, employee information, or any other sensitive material, this represents a real and unnecessary risk. Proper data destruction uses verified overwrite methods that render data unrecoverable.
Our data destruction process
Licensed software, registered to Mojoo Limited
We use licensed data destruction software registered in Mojoo Limited’s name. This is not a free tool or a manual process — it is purpose-built destruction software that carries out a verified, documented wipe of every drive it processes. The software supports all common drive types: 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch HDDs, M.2 and 2.5-inch SSDs (both SATA and NVMe), and eMMC storage. Where a drive supports manufacturer-level secure erase commands, these are used in addition to the overwrite pass for the most thorough possible result.
Automatic certificate of destruction — per drive
After each drive is wiped, the software generates a certificate of destruction automatically. This certificate records the drive’s make, model, serial number, capacity, the wipe method used, and the date and time of completion — all specific to that individual drive. There is no guesswork, no generic “we wiped some drives” statement. Each certificate is unique to each piece of media. If you require copies for your records, we will provide them.
Confirmation message on the wiped drive
After the wipe is complete, a message is written to the drive confirming it has been securely erased. When the drive is next connected to any computer, this message is displayed — giving anyone who later uses the drive a clear, visible confirmation that a professional secure wipe has been carried out. This is an additional layer of transparency that goes beyond simply wiping and moving on.
Physical destruction for unresponsive drives
Drives that are physically damaged or cannot be reliably processed by software — mechanically failed HDDs, severely corrupted SSDs — are physically destroyed. We do not pass unprocessable drives to third-party recyclers with data potentially intact. Physical destruction is the appropriate and only safe outcome for a drive that cannot be verified as clean.
What the certificate covers
Each software-generated certificate of destruction includes: drive make and model, drive serial number, storage capacity, wipe method and number of passes, date and time of wipe, and confirmation of successful completion. For businesses that are asked to demonstrate due diligence in data disposal — whether for an internal audit, a client contract requirement, or a regulatory enquiry — this documentation provides a clear and credible record of what was done and when.
Standalone data destruction service
You do not need to use our full equipment collection service to have drives securely wiped. If you have removed drives yourself and want them processed, drop them off at our workshop at 4 Atlas Grove, West Bromwich, B70 9EB, Monday to Friday 9am–6pm, Saturday 9am–12pm. Your data protection obligations
Under UK GDPR, organisations must ensure that personal data is not accessible to unauthorised parties — including after the hardware it was stored on is disposed of. The ICO’s guidance identifies secure overwrite and physical destruction as the appropriate methods for disposing of storage media containing personal data. Retaining a documented record of destruction — such as the per-drive certificates our software generates — demonstrates the due diligence expected of a data controller disposing of IT assets.
