Printer showing as offline
“Printer offline” is the most common printer complaint we see. It is almost always caused by an IP address change — when your router restarts, it may assign a different IP address to the printer, breaking the connection. The fix sounds simple, but the correct solution is to assign the printer a static IP address so this never happens again. We carry this out as standard when we attend a printer-offline call, along with removing and reinstalling the printer correctly in Windows so the connection is stable going forward.
Wireless printer setup and reconnection
Setting up a wireless printer correctly — particularly on a network with both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands — requires navigating menus that vary by manufacturer and model. We connect the printer to your network correctly, install drivers on every computer or device that needs to print, test printing from each, and configure any features you need (double-sided printing, colour restrictions, scan destinations). We do this for all major brands: HP, Canon, Epson, Brother, Kyocera, Ricoh, and others.
Scan to email not working
Network printers and multifunction devices that scan to email frequently break after email provider security updates — particularly after Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace tightened their authentication requirements. We reconfigure the SMTP settings on your device using modern authentication (app passwords, OAuth where supported), test the scan-to-email function thoroughly, and document the settings for your records in case they are needed in future.
Printer not found by new computer
After a PC replacement or a Windows reinstall, printers often need to be reconfigured rather than simply discovered automatically. We install the correct driver for your specific printer model (manufacturer drivers, not the generic Windows ones that cause quality and feature issues), add the printer by IP address rather than by discovery so it remains stable, and test that all features work correctly on the new machine.
Paper jams and mechanical faults
Recurring paper jams, misfeeds, or error codes that will not clear are sometimes caused by worn feed rollers, a misfired paper sensor, or a small fragment of paper left deep in the paper path. We open the printer, clear the jam completely, inspect the rollers and paper path, and advise on whether the fault is likely to recur or whether a part replacement is needed. We work on most desktop and office laser and inkjet printers.

Printer setup and troubleshooting visits start at £85 for the first hour. Most straightforward printer faults — offline printer, wireless reconnection, scan-to-email reconfiguration — are resolved within the first hour. The flat-rate 2-hour home visit slot at £130 is excellent value if you have a printer issue alongside another job (new PC setup, Wi-Fi fix) that you want to tackle in the same appointment. Business visits are charged at the standard rate of £85/hour.
