Not every donated or collected machine can be economically refurbished as a whole unit — but that does not make it worthless. Mojoo Limited uses non-repairable equipment as a source of quality spare parts for repairs, keeping good components in service far longer than they would otherwise last. If you have broken, damaged, or incomplete IT equipment that another recycler would simply shred, we may be able to put it to better use.
Why spare parts from end-of-life equipment matter
New spare parts for older laptops and computers are increasingly difficult to source — manufacturers stop producing them, distributors run out of stock, and compatible parts become expensive or unavailable through normal channels. A laptop with a cracked chassis but a perfect screen is genuinely valuable to us. A desktop with a dead motherboard but good RAM, a working power supply, and a healthy hard drive represents real repair value. By accepting equipment that would otherwise go straight to the shredder, we extend the useful life of components and reduce demand for new manufactured parts.
Types of equipment most useful as parts donors
Laptops with specific component faults
A laptop with a dead motherboard but a good screen, keyboard, battery, and RAM is an excellent parts donor — particularly for common business models like Dell Latitude, HP EliteBook, and Lenovo ThinkPad series where screen and keyboard availability is a constant need. Similarly, a laptop with a shattered screen but otherwise fully functional can donate its battery, keyboard, RAM, and SSD to other repairs.
Desktops with working individual components
Desktop PCs that are too old or underpowered to refurbish as complete units often contain components with years of life left: DDR3 or DDR4 RAM, working power supplies, optical drives, hard drives with healthy SMART data, CPU coolers, and case fans. These components find their way into other repairs and upgrades rather than going straight to the recycler.
Monitors and displays
Working monitors — particularly smaller business-grade screens — are useful as standalone sales items or as part of a refurbished desktop bundle. Non-working monitors with specific panel faults occasionally yield usable internal components, though the value here is lower. We accept working LCD and LED monitors; we do not accept CRT monitors.
Networking and server equipment
Business-grade networking hardware — managed switches, enterprise access points, and firewall appliances — can have significant residual value even when out of vendor support, particularly for small businesses that do not need vendor support contracts. Server components including ECC RAM, server-grade hard drives, and rack hardware are similarly useful. Donating equipment specifically for parts
If you have equipment that you know is broken and not worth repairing — a laptop with a smashed chassis, a PC that was struck by lightning, machines that were flood damaged — you are welcome to donate them specifically as parts sources. We will still carry out data destruction on any storage media present before using or disposing of any components. We do not pay for parts donations
We do not pay for donated equipment, whether it is intended for refurbishment or spare parts. The value we provide is in the collection, data destruction, and responsible handling of equipment that might otherwise cost you money to dispose of — and in the environmental benefit of keeping components in circulation rather than sending them to the shredder. If you have equipment you believe has significant monetary value and you want to sell rather than donate, we are happy to discuss this separately — contact us with details and we will give you an honest assessment.
