Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our services at Mojoo Limited, West Bromwich.

Repairs & Diagnostics

How much does a diagnostic assessment cost?

We charge a flat £25 diagnostic fee for all devices. This covers a thorough assessment — identifying faults, testing components, and providing a clear report of what needs to be done and what it will cost. If you choose to proceed with the repair, the £25 is credited towards your final invoice. No hidden charges.

How long will my repair take?

Most standard repairs — screen replacements, keyboard faults, virus removal, OS reinstalls — are completed within 24–72 hours. More complex work (motherboard-level repairs, specialist component sourcing) may take longer. We always give you a realistic estimate before we begin and keep you updated throughout.

Do you offer a warranty on repairs?

Yes. All repairs are covered by a 90-day parts and labour warranty. If the same fault recurs within 90 days, we’ll fix it at no additional charge. This applies to hardware repairs and does not cover new faults caused by accidental damage, liquid ingress, or misuse after the device has left our premises.

Can you repair water-damaged laptops?

Yes, though outcomes vary. Do not switch the device on after liquid exposure — this can cause further damage. Bring it to us as soon as possible. We’ll open the device, assess the corrosion, clean affected components, and advise you honestly on whether full recovery is possible. Speed matters — the sooner you bring it in, the better the chances.

Do you repair phones and tablets?

We currently focus on laptops and desktop PCs. We don’t carry out screen replacements or internal repairs on smartphones or tablets as standard. If you have a specific enquiry, feel free to contact us and we’ll let you know if we can help.

What do you do about viruses, malware, and ransomware?

We provide comprehensive virus and malware removal using professional-grade tools. Where ransomware or severe infection is present, we may recommend a clean OS reinstallation to guarantee all traces are removed. We’ll also advise on antivirus solutions and security settings to prevent future infections before returning your device.

My laptop is running slowly — is it worth repairing?

In most cases, yes. Replacing a traditional hard drive (HDD) with a solid-state drive (SSD) is one of the most impactful — and cost-effective — upgrades available, often making a five-year-old machine feel brand new. Adding more RAM is another common fix. We’ll give you an honest assessment of whether an upgrade makes financial sense, rather than pushing you towards an unnecessary new purchase.

My laptop is overheating — can it be fixed?

Almost always, yes. The most common causes are a blocked fan, dust in the heat vents, or degraded thermal paste on the processor. Left untreated, overheating can permanently damage your CPU or GPU. We clean the cooling system, replace thermal paste where needed, and test under load to confirm safe temperatures before returning your device. From £35.

Upgrades & Hardware

Can you upgrade my laptop or desktop to an SSD?

Absolutely — SSD upgrades are one of our most popular services. We clone your existing drive so all your files, programmes, and settings transfer across seamlessly. You won’t lose any data. We stock a range of SSD capacities and will advise on the right size and type for your device and budget.

Can you upgrade the GPU in my desktop?

Yes, for desktop PCs — provided your power supply has sufficient wattage and your case has the space. We advise on compatible upgrades for gaming, video editing, 3D rendering, and AI workloads. Laptop GPU upgrades are generally not possible due to soldered components, though an external GPU enclosure may be an option in some cases.

Do you sell refurbished computers?

Yes. We sell tested and refurbished laptops and desktop PCs through our online shop. All refurbished machines are cleaned, upgraded where appropriate, and installed with a fresh, licensed operating system before sale. Stock changes regularly — browse the shop or contact us to ask about current availability.

What operating systems do you support?

We work across all versions of Windows (including Windows 10 and Windows 11), macOS, Linux, and ChromeOS. We also assist with Windows 10 end-of-life planning for customers whose machines may not officially support Windows 11.

Do you buy old or broken devices?

We don’t currently operate a formal buy-back or trade-in scheme. However, if you have a device you’re looking to sell or dispose of, feel free to contact us — we may be able to help or point you in the right direction. We can also carry out secure data wiping before you sell or recycle a device.

Data Recovery & Backup

I have lost important files — can you recover them?

Data recovery is one of our specialist services. Whether files were accidentally deleted, your drive has failed, your device has been corrupted, or you’ve been hit by ransomware — we use professional tools to retrieve as much data as possible. We always carry out a no-obligation assessment first and will tell you honestly what we can and cannot recover before you commit to anything.

Will you back up my data before carrying out a repair?

Where technically possible, yes — we always attempt to back up your data before any repair that could put it at risk. We strongly recommend all customers maintain their own regular backups. We’re happy to advise on the best backup strategy for your needs, including cloud solutions and external drives.

Custom PC Builds

Can you build a custom PC for gaming, content creation, or professional use?

Yes. We design and build custom PCs for everyday home use, high-performance gaming, video editing, AI workloads, and professional CAD systems. We source components from reputable suppliers, assemble and thoroughly test each build, and install your chosen OS. We take time to understand your use case and budget before recommending a spec — so you get exactly what you need. All builds come with a 2-year warranty.

Is there a fee for custom build consultations?

For standard builds, we charge a £25 consultation fee to cover the time spent speccing your system and sourcing the best components. This fee is waived entirely when you proceed with a full build through Mojoo Limited. For high-end AI, CAD, or studio builds, please contact us to discuss requirements and we’ll provide a detailed quotation.
